The Research and ACTion targeting emerging infectious diseases (REACTing) is a National network of existing structures and research groups, including in southern countries that was endorsed by the French Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Research. It aims to improve research-preparedness and to initiate a rapid and effective research response in the case of a significant outbreak. REACTing was actively involved in the research response to the Chikungunya outbreak in the Caribbean and more recently to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. The meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of the problems encountered by researchers in the context of the Chikungunya and Ebola epidemics and to propose ways to address these problems in future outbreaks.
